  • About Rose

Hello, I'm Rose!

This is the awkward part where I get to write about how awesome I am.

I've studied at Pasadena Art Center and California State University Fullerton, earning degree concentrations in animation and illustration. On the side, I took as many art classes as possible and developed skills in ceramics, sculpture, metal casting, printmaking and various other crafts just for the sheer enjoyment of it. I interned at Cartoon Network Studios and later worked as a prop and set designer for many film projects. I also earned teaching credentials and worked as an instructor of drawing, watercolor, and oil painting at Mission: Renaissance fine art academy.

Eventually, I married into the military life and get to move to cool new places every few years, depending on where the job takes us. I work primarily from my home studio as an artist and illustrator..  Besides all my random contract work, I also sell my work in gift shops, galleries and festivals. Online, you can find my work at various sites which are all linked from my homepage.

I've had a lifelong fascination with natural science. I grew up near the ocean and spent many days beachcombing and tide-pooling, learning the whole ecology of the shoreline and the marine life that dwelled there. Later, while stationed in the Mojave and then Sonora regions, I became captivated by the flora and fauna of those desert environments. While stationed at JBLM near Tacoma, my family and I fell in love with the Pacific Northwest and it's natural beauty. My long-held passion for mycology could truly flourish. Today, we have a homestead on 10 acres in the woods near Mt Rainier where we enjoy gardening, permaculture, foraging and nature.

When I'm not creating art, I love spending time outside exploring the natural world. I'm an advocate of the community science movement and my interests are particularly focused on the ecology of fungi. I lead forays and mushroom walks in the Pacific Northwest and elsewhere in the country. I also travel and offer workshops and lectures teaching the joys of art and mycology.

In the past I've served as Vice President of the South Sound Mushroom Club in Olympia, WA, and as a board member at large for the Wisconsin Mycological Society. I also served for 6 years as the Visual Arts Chair for the North American Mycological Association.

I help drop educational mycological posts  via @SouthSoundMushrooms on Instagram and Facebook. I'm also part of the team behind www.StateMushroom.com , with our goal to see a fungal symbol named in all U.S. States and Canadian Provinces.

I am @TursiArt on Facebook, Instagram, Reddit, and Bluesky.  (my TikTok and Twitter accounts are no longer updated.)
